Background Remover

Make image backgrounds transparent

Upload an image and erase a solid or near-solid background color to transparency with an adjustable tolerance — all in your browser.

About the background remover

Removing a background is handy for product shots, logos and graphics that sit on a flat color. This tool samples the color at the four corners of your image, treats it as the background, and makes every similar pixel transparent — adjustable with a tolerance slider so you can control how aggressive the cut-out is.

It works best on images with a fairly uniform background (a white wall, plain sky, solid color studio backdrop). The result is exported as a PNG, the most common format that supports transparency. Everything runs locally in your browser — your image is never uploaded.

How to use the background remover

  1. Upload an image

Choose a PNG, JPG or WebP with a fairly uniform background.

  2. Adjust the tolerance

Higher removes more similar colors; lower keeps only the exact background.

  3. Remove & download

Click Remove background, then download the transparent PNG.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of backgrounds does this work on?
It works best on solid or near-solid backgrounds (a plain wall, sky, or studio backdrop). Complex, busy backgrounds with many colors cannot be cleanly removed by a color-based tool.
How does the tolerance slider work?
It controls how close a pixel’s color must be to the sampled corner color to be erased. Low values only remove the exact background; higher values remove more similar shades but may eat into your subject.
Why is the output PNG?
PNG supports transparency, which is required for a removed background. JPG does not support transparency, so the cut-out would show a solid color instead.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. All processing happens in your browser using the canvas API. Your file never leaves your device.
