How to Convert Between Pressure Units (bar, psi, pascal, atm)

Learn the common pressure units, how they relate, and how to convert between them for engineering and everyday use.

A pressure converter translates values between pascal, hectopascal, kilopascal, megapascal, bar, millibar, atmosphere, psi, and torr. Pressure units are numerous because different fields adopted different references.

Common pressure units

  • Pascal (Pa) — the SI unit; 1 Pa = 1 N/m².
  • Bar — 1 bar = 100,000 Pa, close to 1 atmosphere.
  • psi — pounds per square inch; common in tyres and US engineering.
  • atm — standard atmosphere = 101,325 Pa.
  • torr / mmHg — 1/760 of an atm; used in medicine and vacuum work.

  • 1 bar = 14.5038 psi = 100,000 Pa.
  • 1 atm = 1.01325 bar = 14.696 psi = 760 torr.
  • 1 psi = 6,894.76 Pa = 0.0689476 bar.
  • 1 hPa = 100 Pa = 1 mbar.

Examples
